T.N. plans electricity generation projects to meet the future needs of the State: Minister

The Tamil Nadu government has planned electricity generation projects that will meet the power needs of the State till 2030, said Minister for Electricity, Excise, and Prohibition, V. Senthilbalaji, in Coimbatore on Saturday.

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) will take up thermal power plant projects for 7,000 MW, pumped storage project for 16,500 MW and 2000 MW of battery storage of power. These will make the State self-sufficient in electricity and meet the complete needs of the State in 2030 too.

Currently, Tamil Nadu has adequate power and to meet the higher demand in summer months, the Tangedco issued tenders and has contracted the required supply. If there are complaints of power disruption in any area, it should be because of local maintenance issues.

The Minister added that 295 private companies participated in the private job fair held in the city on Saturday and offered jobs for 20,000 vacancies. Apart from the walk-ins, about 4,000 candidates had made registrations earlier, he said.
