The police arrested five persons and a juvenile in connection with the double murder case registered at Bheemarayanagudi police station on March 16.
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, in a press note on Thursday, said Hussaini, Shivappagouda, and Mohammad Riyaz were arrested for the murder of Mapanna Badiger, 55, and Prabhu Bhutali and Shrishail Badiger and a juvenile were arrested for the murder of Ali Sab.
Mapanna, a history sheeter, and Ali Sab, both from Madriki village in Shahapur, were returning to the village from Bheemarayanagudi when a rival group attacked Mapanna with a lethal weapon. He died on the spot near Sadyapur village cross in Shahapur taluk on March 16. Ali Sab managed to escape and hid in a house in Madriki. On knowing about the murder of Mapanna, his sons and followers attacked Ali Sab with a knife suspecting him to be behind the incident. Ali Sab died on his way to hospital.
The police registered two different cases after the wives of the dead persons lodged complaints against 15 persons. Mr. Shankar formed a team as Deputy Superintendent of Police of Shorapur Javeed Inamdar on March 19 arrested three accused involved in Mapanna’s murder, while Circle Inspector of Shahapur (Rural) Sharanagowda Nyamannavar arrested two accused and the juvenile in Ali Sab’s murder.
Mr. Shankar said all arrested were produced before the local court, which sent them to judicial custody. The juvenile was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent him to Balamandir.
Further investigation is on, Mr. Shankar said.
