Rates of empanelled hospitals under Ayushman Bharat scheme not revised since 2018: Minister

Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that for the last seven years the government has not revised the rates for treatment of various diseases in empanelled hospitals that implement the Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka (AB-ArK) scheme.

In reply to a question by D. Vedvyas Kamath (BJP), the Minister said the last revision of rates took place in 2018 and upward revision of rates would increase the burden on the State exchequer as the State has to contribute nearly 90% of the cost, while the Centre would provide just 10%.

The State is entitled to get ₹36.58 crore from the Centre for the scheme as per the 60:40 sharing ratio of Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka (AB-ArK) scheme. However, the Centre is yet to respond. Though the sharing ratio for the health scheme between the Centre and State should be 60:40, it is actually 25:75 as the State bears expenditure for around 1.12 crore families while the Centre is only funding the expenses of 69 lakh families, he said.

The State Health Department wrote to the Centre on November 27 seeking adequate support to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) for senior citizens. Of the total AB-ArK beneficiaries, the State has 15.12 lakh families with senior citizens as members.
