Karnataka Budget session: Amended APMC Bill seeks to include e-commerce platforms

The Karnataka Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation and Development) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, that seeks to bring e-commerce platforms under the government ambit in order to collect cess was passed by the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

According to APMC Minister Shivanand Patil, the term “warehouse service provider” has been inserted to bring the e-commerce platform under the ambit of APMC to collect cess. “All e-commerce platforms that sell agricultural produce were evading cess and we had no control over them. With the insertion all e-commerce, they will be brought under the ambit of the Act,” the Minister said.
