Additional police force has been deployed in Aland town after the High Court of Karnataka in Kalaburagi on Tuesday granted permission to perform puja at Raghav Chaitanya Shivalinga located on the premises of the Ladle Mashak Dargah in Kalaburagi district during Wednesday’s Mahashivaratri.
As per sources, leaders of Hindu organisations approached the High Court seeking permission for worshipping Raghav Chaitanya Shivalinga on the dargah premises on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivaratri on Wednesday.
After hearing their petition, the High Court granted permission for 15 people to enter the dargah to perform the puja. The High Court, however, did not grant permission to Siddalinga Swami, national honorary president of Sri Ram Sene, to participate in the puja.
Hindu organisations requested permission for the entry of 500 devotees to perform the puja, but the court restricted permission to only 15 members.
In 2022, a group of people belonging to a particular community desecrated the Shivalinga that sparked significant outrage among Hindus.
Following this, local BJP leaders and members of Hindu organisations made an attempt to perform purification rituals at the Shivalinga. As many as 167 people, including 10 women, were arrested in connection with clashes that broke out between members of the two communities.
However, Shivalinga puja have been performed without any untoward incidents during the last two years.
As a precautionary measure, Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Tarannum has ordered a ban on liquor sales in Aland district from 11 p.m. on Tuesday to 6 a.m. on Thursday.
