A 49- year- old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist and goods auto driver K.K. Radhakrishnan was shot dead at Kaithapram in Kadanappally- Panapuzha grama panchayat on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. when Radhakrishnan, a resident of Puniyankode, Mathamangalam, visited a newly constructed house near Kaithapram library.
Local people, alerted by gunshots, found him lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to Kannur Government Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The Pariyaram police, who arrived at the scene, have detained a suspect, identified as Santosh, a native of Perumbadavu. Initial investigations suggest personal enmity as the motive behind the crime.
Radhakrishnan is survived by his wife, Mini, and children, Amarnath and Arpith, both students.
