The A.P. Legislative Assembly on Friday voted for allocation of grants to five departments with the highest sum of ₹19,265 crore going to Medical & Health (M&H) followed by ₹6,318 crore for the Housing Department. The total allocation was nearly ₹26,462 crore.
Deputy Speaker K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju announced the allocation after the members voted unanimously before the House was adjourned to March 10.
Transport Administration got roughly ₹346 crore, Information and Public Relations about ₹335 crore and Sports and Youth Services ₹200 crore.
Making a statement on the allocation for M&H, Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar said the budget was 30% higher than what the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) had allocated in the last year of its term, and that a significant step was taken by the present government for the construction of five multi-specialty hospitals in the tribal areas at a cost of ₹50 crore each keeping in view the pressing need to deliver quality healthcare in those remote locations.
Health records
He stated that a host of reforms were introduced in the M&H sector in the last nine months, and they were bearing fruit. One of the major initiatives was the preparation of health records for students up to Intermediate. So far, 6.90 million such records had been made.
Screening tests for various diseases were conducted for 1.40 crore people, and cancer treatment was being provided at 19 health centers across the State.
Under the ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) project, injections costing ₹45,000 each were made available free of cost, which saved 2,140 lives, he said.
