A total of 3,737 kg of seized ganja and 4.22 kg of liquid ganja from 183 cases across four sub-divisions of Krishna district were incinerated by the Andhra Pradesh police at Jindal Urban Management, Yadlapadu village in Palnadu district on Saturday.
Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta participated in the destruction of seized ganja whose estimated worth was around ₹1.87 crore. The event was part of the State’s intensified crackdown on illegal drug trafficking and sales, observed Mr. Harish Kumar Gupta, at a press conference conducted on this occasion.
During the event, the DGP emphasized the government’s firm stance against ganja smuggling and highlighted key enforcement measures.
He said that the State government has prioritized the eradication of illegal drug trafficking. The establishment of the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (Eagle) Organization has strengthened surveillance on drug cartels and smuggling networks in the State, he added. The DGP said that the authorities are not only registering cases against traffickers but also seizing their properties as part of a broader legal action.
On the other hand, awareness programmes are being conducted in colleges across the State to prevent youth from falling prey to drug addiction.
The cultivation of ganja in Andhra Pradesh has been brought under strict control, the DGP observed. At the same time, the State police have been coordinating with other States to prevent inter-State smuggling activities.
The event saw the participation of several senior police officials, including Eagle IGP Ake Ravi Krishna, Eluru Range IG G.V.G. Ashok Kumar, Eagle SP K. Nagesh Kumar, Krishna District SP R. Gangadhar Rao and Palnadu District SP Kanchi Srinivasa Rao among others.
