TNERC approves provisional power subsidy of ₹16,274.58 crore for FY 2025-26 payable by state government to TNPDCL


CHENNAI Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) approved a provisional subsidy of ₹16,274.58 crore payable by the Tamil Nadu government to Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (TNPDCL) for FY 2025-26

A subsidy of ₹7,752.61 crore is provisionally approved in respect of reduction in tariff to domestic consumers based on the estimated data furnished by TNPDCL, it said in its order.

A subsidy of ₹5,903.41 crore is provisionally approved in respect of agricultural consumers under normal category, while ₹1,144.48 crore is provisionally approved for  agricultural consumers under self finance scheme (SFS) category.

 A subsidy of ₹360.55 crore is approved for of hut consumers and ₹19.94 crore for reduction in tariff rate to Actual Places of Public Worship. 

The State power regulator also gave nod for a provisional subsidy of  ₹560.43 crore towards free supply and reduction in tariff and fixed charges in respect of power loom consumers.

It also approved a provisional subsidy of ₹15.50 crore towards free supply to handloom consumers. 

A subsidy of ₹70.22 crores is approved for Lift Irrigation Co-operative Societies, TNERC said.

It also approved  ₹387.39 crore for reduction in Time of Day charges during peak hours from 25% to 15% to LT IIIB Industrial consumers with smart meters and non-collection of ToD charges during peak hours for LT IIIB Industrial consumers without smart meters. 

A subsidy of ₹11.05 crore has been approved for reduction in network charges for LT IIIB Industries consumers. 

A subsidy of  ₹49.00 crore is provisionally approved for reduction in charges for Common Supply consumers under IE Category, it said.
