Precautionary steps taken to tackle heatwave: Minister

The Tamil Nadu government has undertaken various precautionary measures to tackle the heatwave in Tamil Nadu. It has been maintaining a medical inventory in this regard, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian said in the Assembly on Tuesday.

Congress legislator J.G. Prince moved a call attention motion in the House, highlighting the need to stock up on required medicines for diseases in the summer in government general hospitals. In response, the Minister tabled a report listing the steps being taken by the government.

The Minister said that the government was monitoring real-time updates on the Integrated Health Information Platform – National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health, and stocked up on necessary medical inventory.

Between two and 10 beds had been allocated in primary health centres, government hospitals and government medical college hospitals in view of heatwave and related cases. Ambulances are on stand-by, he added.

A Standard Operating Procedure has been issued for the treatment to be given to those affected by the heatwave, and availability of drinking water and oral rehydration solutions had been ensured in public places, he added.
