Power of youth is the key, says former ISRO Chairman


The power and confidence of youth is the key for the “Viksit Bharat 2047”, according to the former Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman K .Radhakrishnan.

Participating in the National Science Day celebrations at the SASTRA, a deemed to be university, located at Thirumalaisamudhram on February 28, Dr. Radhakrishnan stressed the need to convert new knowledge to wealth by building a robust innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Stating that power and confidence were the key to achieve the goals of “Viksit Bharat 2047”, he said that it was essential to create Intellectual Property (IP) inside India for India.

He presented the SASTRA-CNR Rao Award, SASTRA-G.N. Ramachandran Award, SASTRA-Obaid Siddiqi Award and the SASTRA-Mahanama Award for 2025 to M. Palaniandavar of Bharathidasan University, Tarun Souradeep of Raman Research Institute, N.G. Prasad from IISER Mohali, and B. Mahadevan from IIMB, respectively. The awards carried a plaque and cash purse of ₹5 lakh each. The SASTRA-Obaid Siddiqi Award for 2024 was presented to Prof. Uma Ramakrishnan from NCBS, according to an official release.

Meanwhile, “SPARGERE-25”, an event with the theme “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat” highlighting the crucial role of young minds in driving India’s scientific progress was held at the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Neelakudi near Tiruvarur, recently.

A range of student-centric activities such as Scavenger Hunt, Sci-Canvas, Atomic Race, Bond Bina Words, Chem-Glimpse, Click Chemistry, Sequence that Matters and an Intra University Quiz Competition, designed to foster scientific curiosity and innovation were held as part of the National Science Day celebrations, according to a CUTN release.
