Drawing attention to certain crimes that have shocked the State in recent weeks, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday suggested that specific cases be taken up for detailed study and urged the police to consult and interact with experts from diverse fields on tackling such issues in a constructive manner.
Mr. Vijayan made the suggestion while addressing a function organised by the State Police for inaugurating new buildings, including an Artificial Intelligence-enabled security operations centre. His remarks were made in an apparent reference to recent crimes involving young people.
Certain incidents that have taken place recently in Kerala are being interpreted as outside the ambit of policing. But they are crimes of a scale that have caused hardships and shock to the public. How such issues can be handled by drawing from the experience of the police needs to be explored, Mr. Vijayan said.
Specific cases should be subjected to detailed study so as to evolve an understanding on what leads to such incidents, what families and the society should watch out for and what are the issues requiring general attention, he said.
It should also be examined whether the education system needs reform in terms of inculcating values in the younger generation. While it is not merely the responsibility of the police, the force should take the initiative to consult and interact with experts from diverse fields in this matter, he said.
Mr. Vijayan said that the State government places utmost importance to the safety of women and children. Cases related to women and children should be delat with efficiently, he said.
