Over 180 bird species spotted during the bird census at Muthupettai, Udhayamarthandapuram

Several terrestrial and wetland bird species were sighted and recorded during the bird census conducted by the Forest department at the Muthupettai mangrove forests area and the Udhayamarthandapuram bird sanctuary in Tiruvarur district earlier this month.

The annual exercise was carried out involving college students, volunteers, and the department officials.

According to sources in the department, about 125 terrestrial and 62 wetland species were recorded during the exercise at the two places. The wetland species included several migratory birds.
