More than 20 District Congress Committee presidents have camped in New Delhi to meet and present petitions to All India Congress Committee bigwigs, including president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi, complaining about the style of functioning of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, K. Selvaperunthagai.
A senior DCC president told The Hindu from New Delhithat Mr Selvaperunthagai was not maintaining cordial relationships with former Members of Parliament and former members of Legislative Assembly.
“We should be allowed to work freely and our right to function as DCC president should be protected. We have met Ms. Priyanka Gandhi and we will soon meet K.C. Venugopal and Mr. Rahul Gandhi to apprise them of the situation in Tamil Nadu unit,” said a senior DCC president. He added that inclusion of a fee to apply for post of President was opposed by many in the party.
Another DCC president said Mr. Selvaperunthagai’s “overt support” to the DMK, often at the expense of Congress’ identity, has not gone down well with the party cadre.
However, another office bearer said these are non-issues and changing the party president one year before the assembly elections wouldn’t be beneficial to the party in anyway.
