The Thrissur Corporation’s silver jubilee year Budget presented on Wednesday promised many new projects.

From April 1, property tax payers who settle their dues on time will receive a 5% subsidy for the next three months. The Corporation will waive off six months of rent for approximately 2,400 individuals, who have been renting the Corporation’s buildings. A subsidy scheme for water tax payers who pay regularly and settle arrears will also be implemented.

A special 7.5% subsidy will be provided to 7,500 individuals within the Corporation limits, with ₹5 crore allocated for this purpose. Special prizes will be given for resident associations (registered before December 31, 2024) who who have been paying property tax and water charges promptly.

An amount of ₹2 crore has been allocated to cover the educational expenses of 100 underprivileged students pursuing professional education. A sum of ₹5 crore has been earmarked to provide free dialysis for all dialysis patients in the Corporation area. In a move to empower women, the Corporation will offer a subsidy for electric scooters to 1,000 widows under 50, with ₹2.5 crore set aside for this initiative.

Financial aid of ₹5 crore will be allocated for the weddings of 500 economically disadvantaged girls. Special programmes to honour senior citizens will include the “Golden Age” gathering for those above 80, with ₹50 lakh reserved for this event.

The Corporation has allocated ₹3 crore for providing employment to 10,000 individuals through its partnership with the Kerala Knowledge Mission. A sum of ₹2 crore will be set aside for the provision of laptops to 1,000 underprivileged students pursuing professional courses. ₹5 crore will be allocated for providing electric vehicles to eligible differently-abled individuals. As many as 10,000 remaining households in the Corporation limits will receive free water connections under the comprehensive water supply scheme.

Other allocations include, ₹3 crore for cultural events, including a musical programme in memory of the late singer P. Jayachandran; ₹1 crore for events related to the Thrissur Pooram festival; and ₹50 lakh for the pulikali (tiger dance). An amount of ₹15 crorehas been allotted forLearning City projectand ₹20.5 crore allocated for the agriculture sector.

The total expenditure for the Budget stands at ₹1,197,10,76,000, with a revenue expenditure of ₹656,90,51,000 and capital expenditure of ₹540,20,25,000.
