Karnataka govt. to set up committee headed by Chief secretary for water management


The State government will set up a committee headed by the Chief Secretary for water management across the State this summer.

The committee will have officials working at all reservoir and technical experts in water management to assist in managing water storage, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil told presspersons in his post-Cabinet briefing. He said that while Irrigation Consultative Committees are there for reservoir, the committee will also oversee release of water from the reservoir.

The Cabinet also approved the construction of Spoorthi Soudha at the revised estimate of ₹85 crore near Vikas Soudha, the foundation stone for which will be laid on April 14 coinciding with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti.

Other decisions

Among other decisions taken by the Cabinet are bringing amendments to the Karnataka Data Centre policy to supply subsidised power to companies, approval to declare periphery regions of Bankapura Wolf Sanctuary, Uttaragudda Sanctuary and, Arsikere Bear Sanctuary as eco-sensitive zones, sending proposal to revise the eco-sensitive zone around Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, restoring Karnataka Kalamandira, Rangayana, and Vishwa Kannada Sammela Guest House in Mysuru at the cost of ₹14.64 crore, and management of infrastructure and human resource on Build Own Operate (BOO) model in sub-registrar offices at a cost of ₹637.45 crore.
