AMMK founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Thursday (February 13, 2025) urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the police to crack down on the drug menace that has been affecting students in the State.

Citing media reports on how drugs were readily available in places closer to educational institutions, Mr. Dhinakaran, in a social media post, said the government’s failure to prevent even the illegal sale of tobacco products only showed the inefficiency of the administration.

The Food Safety and Police Departments’ move to impose penalty only on retailers and not go after wholesale dealers was the key reason behind the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions, Mr. Dhinakaran contended.

Parents of students are concerned about the issue and are questioning the Chief Minister over the steps taken to prevent this, he said.
