CSR scam: former Kumily panchayat president moves anticipatory bail in HC

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday (February 11, 2025) sought the response of the police on an anticipatory bail petition filed by Sheeba Suresh, former president of Kumily grama panchayat who had worked as a coordinator appointed by Ananthu Krishnan, the key accused in the CSR funds scam, for promoting his business in Idukki district.

The court posted the petition for further hearing on February 18.

According to Ms. Suresh, she apprehended that she would be falsely implicated in the case. She was appointed to canvass on behalf of Ananthu Krishnan to raise money for a monthly payment. She said that she was not aware of Ananthu Krishnan’s background except that he was an active leader of Bharat Sevak Samaj and national coordinator of National NGO Federation. She had stopped working for him after allegations against him had surfaced.

The petitioner said that she had not committed any offences and that she was innocent. She took up the work on the bona fide belief that Ananthu Krishnan was doing charity work for uplift of women folk.
