Centre approves four-lane Railway Over Bridge in Mangalagiri

The Central government has approved ₹129.18 crore for the construction of a four-lane Railway Over Bridge (ROB) at Namburu-Mangalagiri Level Crossing No. 14. This project is expected to play a crucial role in improving connectivity and supporting the development of the capital region.

The proposal was put forward by by Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, following a proposal from Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for IT and Education, Nara Lokesh. This ROB will be the fifth bridge sanctioned through Mr. Pemmasani’s efforts.

Both Ministers have been working to secure Central funds for the project and their continuous efforts led to multiple discussions with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State V. Somanna, who finally approved the project on Tuesday. The ROB will be nearly one kilometre long, connecting Mangalagiri and Nidamarru. It is expected to ease traffic congestion and provide a direct route to the Amaravati administrative region, which currently relies on Tulluru-Mangalagiri Road and Krishna River Karakatta Road for access to the Secretariat.

The construction of this ROB will help in reducing traffic congestion at Level Crossing No. 14 on the Guntur-Vijayawada railway section. It will also improve connectivity for thousands of commuters and students traveling to Pedaparimi, Neerukonda, Nidamarru, Tadepalli and universities such as SRM and VIT. This project is a crucial part of the larger plan to strengthen Amaravati’s infrastructure, complementing the ₹15,000 crore allocated by the Central government for capital development.
