Anganwadi worker, assistant suspended for allegedly branding child

An Anganwadi worker and assistant have been suspended for branding a child with a hot ladle in Gulagala Jambagi village in Bagalkot district.

Shobha Holeppanavar and Sharavva Panchagavi have been suspended pending detailed inquiry.

They face charges of branding Preeti Bagali, a child who was attending the Anganwadi, as they were upset with her incessant crying.

The suffered a minor burnt wound and was treated as an out patient.

Child development programme officer Kashibai Karagol conducted the Anganwadi following a complaint by villagers. A report has been sent to the deputy director of women and child welfare, officers said.
