‘Teachers’ Brigade,’ a team of around 2,000 volunteers trained in rescue operations and de-addiction drives, will be launched during the State conference of the Kerala School Teachers Association (KSTA) here from February 14 to 16.
KSTA general secretary K. Badarunnisa and president D. Sudheesh told the media here on Wednesday that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would launch the brigade at Muthalakkulam Ground on February 15. The brigade’s services could be utilised during natural calamities and other emergency situations. They could also be deployed for the drives against substance abuse in schools and colleges.
Academic and social activist Ram Puniyani would open the conference at Samudra Auditorium in the city at 10 a.m. on February 14. Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal would deliver a lecture at 5 p.m. CPI(M) leader M. Swaraj and Left Democratic Front convener T.P. Ramakrishnan, MLA, would attend sessions there on February 15. Mr. Vijayan would address a public event at the Muthalakkulam Ground at 5 p.m. Ahead of this, a rally would be taken out. On the final day, new State functionaries would be elected. General Education Minister V. Sivankutty and Minister for Public Works and Tourism P.A. Mohamed Riyas would attend various sessions.
