The police team investigating the twin murders of a man and his mother at Pothundy recorded the statement of the former wife of Chenthamara, the accused in the case.
The woman testified that she had been abused, and that she left him because she could no longer endure his harassment. She said she was ashamed of being known as Chenthamara’s wife.
She told the police that Chenthamara used to behave badly with the neighbours.
The investigation team said there were three direct witnesses to the murder of Sudhakaran and his mother Lakshmi. It was on January 27 that Chenthamara hacked and killed the mother-son duo in front of their house at Pothundy.
Chenthamara was out on bail when he committed the twin murder. He had been awaiting trial in the murder of Sudhakaran’s wife Sajita in 2019.
The police team said they would submit the chargesheet before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Alathur before March 27, two months since the murder. “We are preparing the chargesheet. It’s in the final stage,” said N. Muraleedharan, DySP of Alathur, who is heading the investigation.
Once the chargesheet is filed, the case is likely to be transferred to the District and Sessions Court, Palakkad, for trial.
