Farmer killed in wild boar attack cremated in Mokeri


The village of Mokeri bid a tearful farewell to A.K. Sreedharan, 75, a farmer who succumbed to injuries after being attacked by a wild boar while working in his field. His body was cremated at his home compound on Monday morning (March 3) in the presence of a large gathering.

A hartal was observed in Mokeri panchayat until 1 p.m. as a mark of respect. Public representatives and political leaders, including MLA K.P. Mohanan, Khadi Board vice chairman P. Jayarajan, Pattiyam panchayat president N.V. Shinija, and others paid their last respects.

Mr. Sreedharan was fatally injured in a wild boar attack on Sunday morning (March 2) while working in the Muthiyanga field in Pattiyam panchayat. Following the post-mortem at Kannur Medical College Hospital, his body was brought back home in an ambulance.

Congress workers staged a protest against the increasing incidents of wild boar attacks but withdrew after receiving an assurance from the Panoor police inspector.

The government had sanctioned ₹10 lakh in compensation to the victim’s family. Divisional Forest officer Vysak Sasi said the amount would be handed over to the family on Tuesday morning (March 4).
