COSMOS’s ‘Venus and Jupiter watch’ gets good response

The Cosmology Education and Research Training Centre (COSMOS), Mysuru, of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), in association with the University of Mysore, organised a “Venus and Jupiter Watch”, a night skywatch program for the general public.

The event was held on Friday from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at Vijnana Bhavana, University of Mysore, as part of the National Science Day 2025 celebrations.

S.N. Prasad, retired principal of the Regional Institute of Engineering (RIE), Mysuru, who was the resource person, and the COSMOS team coordinated the program. Dr. Prasad, Mr. Aatmananda, and the COSMOS team set up two telescopes, allowing participants to observe celestial objects.

The resource persons briefly introduced the basics of astronomy through telescopes, stated a release.

Attendees had the opportunity to observe the crescent phase of Venus, Bands of Jupiter, and its Galilean moons. Throughout the event, the public engaged in discussions with Amoghavarsha N. and Yashaswini K.S. of the COSMOS Outreach Team, deepening their understanding of astronomy. More than 350 people attended the event.
